Benefits of a Kybella Double Chin Treatment

Double chins, you have met your match!

The self-conscious, dreaded, doubling of the chins. Sometimes they’re unavoidable – a genetic trait passed down by your dad’s or mom’s side of the family – or maybe sometimes the last place you notice any kind of dieting change and weight loss. Well, now, there’s an answer.

Kybella – put it’s name in lights!

Kybella is the first FDA-approved injectable treatment to help reduce that stubborn fat under the chin. It is a non-surgical procedure that helps mimic the body’s natural fat-absorption process. Also, the answer to liposuction. So skip it! Kybella contains man-made forms of deoxycholic acid. Which is a naturally occurring material that helps the body absorb fat. Therefore erasing any evidence of genetic discrepancies, and any remaining self-consciousness.

Facts About Kybella

  • Kybella is a nonsurgical injection technique used to reduce excess fat beneath the chin.
  • Each treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • It uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid.

Effectiveness:

Kybella is a non-invasive injectable technique used mainly to target the fat beneath the chin, the dreaded double chin. The process uses deoxycholic acid injections that help remove fat cells in this area. With no surgery or incisions, the downtime in most cases, and in comparison is minimal.

The best candidates start at 18 years old and over with a moderate amount or severe amount of fat beneath the chin. Those who need to reconsider Kybella injections are women who are pregnant or nursing, people who have trouble swallowing, if you had or plan on having facial surgery, have a medical condition or injection near the injection site.

Research done back in 2015 collected a data survey that 67% of people were bothered by the excess fat under their chin.

Preparation

It’s always important to prepare for Kybella by first discussing your consideration with a healthcare provider to ensure you are a good candidate for the procedure. Talk about your past medical history, any cosmetic procedures you’ve had done. Specifically on or around your neck, chin, and face. Talk to your healthcare professional if you have any bleeding problems or trouble swallowing to avoid any further complications with Kybella injections. There is still research being done to determine what effects Kybella has on infants. So if you’re pregnant, nursing, or plan on being pregnant, make sure to talk to your doctor.

Otherwise there is little preparation required for Kybella. A point most healthcare providers will make is to make sure you schedule the procedure plenty of time before any major events. Make sure to keep your face clean by washing it before the appointment. This avoids increased risk of infection and added bacteria around the injection site. Also, avoid acetaminophen and ibuprofen post-treatment to avoid bruising.

Targeted Areas

Kybella is FDA-approved for use in the following area:

  • submental area (under the chin)

But, How Does It Work?

Kybella uses a man-made acid called deoxycholic which is an acid, a bile acid, that your body naturally produces to help absorb fat. Kybella uses a synthetic version of this. Once your healthcare provider injects Kybella beneath the chin, the acid destroys fat cells so it can’t store fat anymore. Ensure you have a trained physician to administer treatment. Deoxycholic acid is known to destroy more than fat cells and can kill other cells in the process.

Prior to injection, your healthcare provider will mark the injection sites with a marker and possibly a topical numbing agent or ice pack to ease any discomfort.

Your physician will administer about 20 to 30, possibly up to 50 injections under the chin. The acid then works gradually to metabolize fat cells. This happens over the following weeks after treatment.

Since everyone’s chin is very different, the amount of treatments needed vary per person. Your healthcare provider will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount of fat, personal goals, and distribution of submental fat. However, it is known that multiple treatments are needed to reach optimal results. With up to 6 Kybella treatments with one month in between each procedure. In clinical studies 59% of patients received 6 treatments.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Kybella normally show up as:

  • Swelling
  • Pain
  • Redness
  • Hardness in the treatment area

These are not all of the possible side effects of Kybella. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

Recovery

After your Kybella injections, you may likely have bruising, swelling, and/or numbness under the chin. Make sure to talk to your healthcare professional if you start to develop an uneven smile, difficulty swallowing, facial muscle weakness or injection site problems such as hair loss, damage, tissue cell-death or necrosis, bruising, or open sore like ulcers.

Let your doctor know if…

Before receiving Kybella, tell your healthcare provider about all of your medical conditions, including if you:

  • Have had or plan to have surgery on your face, neck, or chin
  • Have had cosmetic treatments on your face, neck, or chin
  • Have had or have medical conditions in or near the neck area
  • Have had or have trouble swallowing
  • Have bleeding problems
  • Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant (it is not known if KYBELLA® will harm your unborn baby)
  • Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed (it is not known if KYBELLA® passes into your breast milk)
