Juvéderm®

What is Juvéderm?

As we age, our skin changes. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin diminishes as wrinkles and folds form. But, with Juvéderm® injectable gel, you don’t have to sit back and let it happen! Juvéderm is a “next-generation” dermal filler gel with a smooth consistency, made of hyaluronic acid—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration.

Dr. Balshi eases Juvéderm® injectable gel under the skin to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). It can also be used to heal acne scarring. Juvéderm™ is a simple, convenient procedure that yields practically instantaneously results.

Before / After

F.A.Q.s

Where/How can the treatment be applied?

Juvéderm may be used in a wide range of applications including: smile lines, marionette lines, acne scarring, other lines and wrinkles on the face, and lips- for a natural, full look! The gel is injected under the skin to provide a smooth, natural look and feel, so everyone will notice (but no one will know)! After the injection, Dr. Balshi may gently massage your skin to optimize contouring.

Is the procedure safe?

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers like Juvéderm™ offer a safe and effective non-surgical option for the immediate smoothing of facial wrinkles and folds. In fact, “fillers” are the fastest growing non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the United States. Juvéderm™ is FDA approved for use in the United States and has been used safely by dermatologists, nurse practitioners and plastic surgeons worldwide. Because Juvéderm™ is non-animal-based and fully biocompatible, allergy testing is not required. This quality virtually eliminates any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction.

What should I do prior to treatment?

Patients should avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, and high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week prior to treatment. This will help minimize any bruising or bleeding at the injection site. If patients have a history of herpes or cold sores, they will need to be treated with an anti-viral medication before and after Juvéderm™.

How long does the procedure take?

The injection process only takes about 15 minutes. You’ll also need to allow time to consult with your doctor prior to treatment.

Is it painful?

Juvéderm is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts, using a small needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, Dr. Balshi may anesthetize the treatment area to eliminate any procedural pain.

How long do the results last?

Juvéderm is made using a unique manufacturing process that results in the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available hyaluronic acid dermal filler. This cross-linking equates to long-lasting results. Juvéderm is the only hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to 1 year.

What are the side effects?

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short-lived (less than one week). The most commonly reported side effects are temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve themselves within two to three days. Other common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions—such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection.

Is there any downtime or post-treatment care?

Normally, patients return to their usual routine almost immediately following the procedure. Cold compresses may help reduce swelling and bruising. Make-up may be worn immediately after treatment.
